The Napa Valley is unique in many ways, and one is
the outstanding quality of medical care available. This is largely
due to Queen of the Valley Hospital, Napa County's largest provider of
health care service for over 40 years.
Queen of the Valley Hospital, part of the St.
Joseph Health System, is a full-service diagnostic and therapeutic
facility. The high quality of its medical and professional staff
and the array of advanced technologies and treatments it offers are at a
level rarely found in small community hospitals.
What has allowed Queen of the Valley to grow and
thrive is the outstanding support it continues to receive from those it
serves, people like you who want to build a healthy tomorrow for
themselves, their families, and their community.
From the beginning, Queen of the Valley Hospital
has reached out to the community it serves and received generous support
in return.
The hospital was founded in 1958 by the Sisters of
St. Joseph of Orange, who came to Napa in response to community requests
for help in meeting the growing town's health needs. In 1969 local
leaders formed the Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation, a qualified
charity, to ensure ongoing financial support to the hospital.
Since then the Foundation has raised over $14 million for projects such
as purchase of advanced equipment and expansion of emergency and
intensive-care services.
Today, due to the high cost of advanced
technologies and profound shifts in healthcare economics, a hospital
that wants to provide the best available treatments can no longer do so
simply by drawing on current revenues. Queen of the Valley's
state-of-the-art technologies, its many programs serving the less
fortunate, and the excellent care it offers are all increasingly
dependent on philanthropy.
More than ever, Queen of the Valley Hospital's
mission of healing depends on the support of the Queen of the Valley
Hospital Foundation and its friends. Your generous contribution
today will help build a healthy tomorrow for all of us.
Tribute Gifts
Donations to the Foundation can be made in honor or in memory of any
person you specify. While tribute gifts are frequently mentioned
as a preference in funeral notices, they are also often used to honor
living designees.
Unrestricted Gifts
Most gifts to the Foundation fall in this category, with no
conditions set on how they will be used. Unrestricted gifts can be
used wherever the need is greatest.
Restricted Gifts
Some donors wish to contribute to a specific department, program or
equipment purchase. For example, some gifts are designated for
Critical Care, Hospice, Home Care or Community Health Outreach, which
provides care for the medically underserved. A restricted gift
allows you to specify how your donation will be used.
The Endowment Fund
When gifts are made to the Endowment Fund, the gift principal is
maintained in perpetuity and invested to create income for the
hospital. Income from gifts to the Endowment Fund can be
restricted to specified purposes or added to the Foundation's
unrestricted funds.
Planned Giving Opportunities
You can obtain substantial tax benefits and income enhancement
opportunities during your lifetime by making a gift of stocks,
property, or other appreciated assets using a variety of estate planning
tools. For example, charitable remainder capital gains and
inheritance taxes while providing lifetime income for you or anyone you
designate.
You may also choose to donate to Queen of the
Valley by naming the Foundation in your will as a recipient of an
outright gift of property or other assets. Or you may choose to
create a trust in your will, naming the Foundation as a
beneficiary. Such gifts may be restricted or unrestricted and made
either to the General Fund or the Endowment Fund.
The Foundation's staff is here to provide
confidential, no-obligation consultations about how these and other
forms of philanthropy can benefit you and your loved ones as well as
Queen of the Valley Hospital.
Circle of Friends
The Foundation's annual giving club is open to all who make gifts of
$300 each year. Friends are honored at an annual event and
receive a variety of other benefits, depending on their level of giving.
The Hall of Honor
Located on the mail floor of the hospital's Nursing Pavilion, the
Hall of Honor offers permanent recognition to those who have made a
cumulative contribution of $2,000 or more. By offering Hall of
Honor membership, Queen of the Valley expresses a very special and
enduring gratitude.
